Adeleke Squanders L/G Funds, APC alleges, heads for court.

The present government in Osun State led by Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke has been accused of squandering the states’s collective patrimony belonging to the local government areas in Osun State. At a press conference organized by the former chairmen of local governments in the State from the APC platform held in Osogbo the State capital on Saturday, Hon. Owoeye Samuel Abiodun (OSA) who was the former Chairman of Obokun East LCDA who spoke on behalf of the Chairmen said that Adeleke’s administration has squandered over N183 billion federal allocation to the 30 LG’s in Osun State between November 2022 and November 2024. The former Executive Chairmen; who were elected in 2022 under the All Progressives Congress accused the state government of abusing the 1999 constitution by withholding and spending the federal allocation that accrued to the local government areas of Osun State. “We are deeply concerned by the flagrant abuse and disregard to the judicial pronouncement of the highest court in the land by the state government” Owoeye said. According to him, “We all recall that on 11th July, 2024, in suit no: SC/CV/343/2024, the Supreme Court in its landmark judgment, forbade state governments in the country from tampering with LG’s allocations. This untoward behaviour of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration in Osun has impoverished the people of the state, especially those at the grassroots. Speaking further, Hon. Owoeye said “Curiously, our concern stems from the fact that the administration has embarked on this impunity without democratically-elected local government officials in place. This in itself is an intentional subversion of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). As law abiding citizens of Nigeria, we frown at this unbecoming attitude of the PDP administration in the state.” All efforts to get a response from Mr. Kolapo Alimi the state’s commissioner for information on this matter proved abortive as at press time but an APC stalwart who spoke with Newstrend but craved anonymity said the APC is taking the matter to court “You won’t believe that local governments in this State have collected the total sum of N183,196,629,321.19,( One Hundred and Eighty-Three Billion, One Hundred and Ninety-Six Million, Three Hundred and Twenty-One Thousand, Nineteen Kobo), from November 2022 to November 2024 without anything to show for it, the question is: Where is the over N183 billion received by the Ademola Adeleke Government on behalf of our Local Government? I think our party has taken the right decision by taking the PDP led government to court.” He concludes. Newstrend however learn that the matter has been filed at the federal high court Osogbo last Friday.
